Zoe's Guide to Picking a Travel Crib

Headed on vacation? Or maybe you’re visiting some family out of state? It might be time that you start thinking about a travel crib. Now before you go “I don’t need a travel crib!” or “travel cribs are too much of a hassle!”, we have a few thoughts you might want to think over.

First off – travel really shakes up your day-to-day schedule. That’s kind of the point, right? But, this can often be tough on your littles. By giving them a familiar sleep environment, you’re already making them more comfortable.

Let’s cover a few of the things you’ll want to consider before taking the leap on a travel crib.

1. Is it the right size?

What’s the weight and size of your child, and how much space do they need to feel comfortable? These are things you’ll want to think about before choosing a crib. Most product descriptions will list the key safety information, but it’s good to know what you’re looking for. A crib that’s too small may not last very long as your child grows, but a crib that’s too big could be unsafe. Whatever you decide, something like the Cloud is a great, larger option, and the Cloud Mini is ideal if you want something on the smaller side.

2. Is it multipurpose?

If you’re going to get the most out of your travel crib, you might as well make sure it’s multipurpose. Whether your crib includes a bassinet (the Cloud has this, by the way), a changing table, or extra compartments, you want to make sure that it includes features that are useful to you and your family.

3. Does it have a travel bag?

To go to the trouble of purchasing a travel crib only to realize that it doesn’t travel well is...pretty disappointing. You don’t need your crib weighing you down as you’re headed out the door or zooming around the airport. Opt for something with a comfortable strap or a backpack carrier.

4. Is it water resistant?

Of course, you want your travel crib to be comfortable for your kiddos. That’s a given. It’s also why ours is made of a plush luxe fabric...you’re welcome, babies everywhere. But if you’ve made it this far into a blog about cribs, then you probably are the type of person who knows that kids are messy. Like, really messy. So, when you’re choosing a crib, look out for one that’s water resistant for easy, stress-free damage control.

6. Is it the right weight?

If lugging a heavy crib around on a tired travel day sounds like a nightmare to you, we get it. No really, we get it. Our travel crib is only 15lbs, so it won’t weigh you down. Trust us, your body will thank you later.
